Transfer Talk

Everton signed Davy Klaassen. The club already bigger under Koeman?

While most other Premier League clubs are involved in speculations and transfer rumors, Everton have already made Ajax’s captain Davy Klaassen their second major signing this summer in a £23.6  million deal. The transfer has been officially completed just 24 hours after the Toffees announced Jordan Pickford as their new goalkeeper.

“He’s a player who is only 24 but has a lot of experience and is a leader on the pitch. He has already captained Ajax for two seasons and that shows you the type of person he is”, said Ronald Koeman about Klaassen adding that he is hardworking player who enjoys pressing. The Dutch manager expects Klaassen to give Everton’s midfield more creativity and to score goals.

Klaassen himself said that, before making his decision to move to Everton, he wanted to come to Liverpool, to see the club and the facilities, and to meet Everton’s executives. The Dutch midfielder explained that he needed to “check if this was the right club for me and since I came here I feel so happy”. He added that he felt that Everton is “a great club” and that after he met Koeman face to face and spoke to him he got a good feeling.

“I talked to him about the club and everything we want to achieve and he was really positive. It’s difficult to leave Ajax but I think this is a good step for me now and I’m really looking forward to my time here”, said Klaassen.

Koeman has made it clear that he wants to improve Everton’s attack by signing at least one forward and few offensive midfielders, even without considering Romelu Lukaku’s stay or possible departure. Lukaku said he is leaving Everton, with Stamford Bridge the most likely destination fro the Beligian striker. However, it is unclear whether Chelsea or any other team would be willing to pay a transfer fee that lies anywhere between £80 million and 100 million.

Davy Klaassen is expected to add himself to the scoresheet at Googdison Park next season. He has netted 14 league goals for Ajax in 2016/2017. The club finished second to Feyenoord in the Netherland’s Eredivisie and played at the Europa League final.
