Mohamed Salah will take the No. 11 shirt at Liverpool, while Roberto Firmino will wear No. 9. Salah has signed a five-year contract after the Liverpool agreed a deal worth €39 million with Roma. The 25-year-old Egyptian winger is the club’s second signing of the summer after Dominic Solanke, who joins Reds on July 1.
The last Liverpool player who has made some impact with the No. 9 shirt was Andy Caroll, despite that according to most of the fans and the media he was unable to live up to the £35 million transfer fee Reds pay to Newcastle United for him. Christian Benteke was the last to wear the No. 9, with by both Rickie Lambert and Iago Aspas before him.
Liverpool announced that they will offer fans who have purchased shirts with Firmino as No. 11 on the back a chance to get their shirts signed by the Brazilian.
“I’m very excited to be here. I’m very happy. I will give 100% and give everything for the club. I really want to win something for this club. We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100% to win something”, told Salah told LiverpoolFC website.
He said the everyone can see that Jurgen Klopp gives everything for Liverpool to progress and win silverware. “I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us”, added Mohamed Salah.
Jurgen Klopp told the media that he welcomes Mohamed Salah and his family into “our Liverpool family“.
“Mohamed has the perfect mix of experience and potential. This is a really exciting signing for us. He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country”, said Klopp.
He has mentioned that Salah’s record in Italy has been outstanding and he has the qualities that will help Liverpool to grow. “I have followed him since he emerged at Basel and he has matured into a really good player”, added the German. He believes the fast right winger will help his team going forward next season.
“His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area. I like that we will make it even more competitive. Most important though, for us, is that he is hungry, willing and eager to be even better and improve further”, said Klopp for he told LiverpoolFC.com.
