Pep Guardiola: We will be better next season

Do you believe that Arsenal will allow Alexis Sanchez to leave Emirates for Manchester City? It is hard to imagine that Arsenal’s board would make such a decision that would both jeopardize Gunners chances to win anything next year, while improving those of one of their main competitors – Man City.

“We will be better, like everyone will be better. We will be better next season”, this is what Pep Guardiola promised to Man City fans, speaking to Manchester Evening News. He added that “when you win you are a god and it’s good”. Guardiola has already signed the versatile midfielder Bernardo Silva from Monaco and Benficas former goalkeeper Ederson. He is looking to bring few more quality players to Ethihad this summer and it is rumored that Alexis Sanchez, Kyle Walker and Dani Alves might be on their way to Manchster.

“During eleven months together it is a process, you can enjoy it, new games new actions – the opponents always play well”, said Guardiola speaking about the last season, which he defined as “good effort” by the Catalan manager.

The weekend’ papers reported the Guardiola is a bit “frustrated” by attempts to agree a fee for Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker. The Sky Blues are believed to have offered around £40 million for the wing-back, but Spurs set him at £50 million price tag. Walker is a the player to fill in the vacant right back position in City’s team and the player has indicated that he is willing to to work under Guardiola. However, Man City and Tottenham have so far been unable to agree on the transfer.

Another possible defensive addition to Manchester City would be the  Southampton’s central defender Virgil van Dijk. The Saints value him at £70 million. He has been a long term target for Liverpool, who have mismanaged his transfer, however. The £70 million price tag of a defender is a price which would discourage even the richest football clubs, however. So it is very likely that van Dijk would stay with the Saints fro at least another season.

The player who is very likely to join the City is the Juventus wing-back Dani Alves, who is negotiating a contract termination with Juventus. He has told the Brazilian TV channel Globo that “…everyone knows my admiration for Pep Guardiola”. The 34-year-old Alves would be available soon and on a free transfer. Still Guardiola needs to have at least two strong players competing for the right back position after releasing Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna.
