The Turkish language website Fotomac reported that Rafael Benitez wants to bring Martin Skrtel to Newcastle United this summer. Benitez believes that the central defender who has a lot of experience in the Premier League playing for Liverpool will increase the stability in the Magpies back four.
Benitez has signed Skrtel in 2008 as Liverpool manager and the Slovakian gas established himself as Anfield’s favorite. He has played in 242 games for Liverpool, scoring 16 goals for the club, before moving to the Fenerbahce. The Turkish club needs to sell the 32-year-old Skrtel this summer, as they have been found of breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations. Fenerbahce have bought Skrtel for £5 million and are now looking to recoup most of the amount they paid for the Slovakian.
It has been reported that the Swansea manager Paul Clement also wants to sign Martin Skrtel as he is looking to add experienced central defenders to his squad.
Newcastle United have also been linked with a transfer of the Eibar’s centre-half Florian Lejuene.
