Pep Guardiola has been very decisive in his effort to change things in the blue side of Manchester. As soon as he took on, he axed Joe Hart, the English national goalkeeper at the time, just be cause he thought that Hart isn’t good enough to play with the ball. Now with the arrival of the Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus, the next one that would be showed the exit is Sergio Aguero?
Pep Guardiola left Auguero outside the starting eleven for the Champions League group game against Barcelona at the Nou Camp. As the Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus has been preferred for the No 9 position last season on a number of occasions, Sergio Aguero understandably felt that his future might not be at the Etihad as he always wanted. In February 2016 he has told Manchester City that he wants to finish his career at the Etihad.
“I want to stay for next season but we will have to see what the club wants”, said Auguero an year later, in Feb 2017 and explained that he is not concerned wit hate fact that he might be left on the bench on some occasions. “I am fine. It is normal. Sometimes this happens and when you are on the bench you have to wait for your opportunity. I have three months to do my best and try to help the team. We will see what happens with my future. I am not thinking about leaving. I have to help the team as much as I can in these three months. Afterwards, we will see what the club wants to do with me”, explain he Argentinian striker.
Now, with the new transfer window opened Aguero’s agent has hinted that the player’s future at Manchester City is uncertain as he has not signed an extension to his current contract. City haven’t commented on whether “Kun” Aguaero has signed one-year extension which would keep him at the Etihad until 2020. In January, Guardiola said “He has already signed a contract extension. Sergio will be here until he decides not to be here”. However, Aguero himself has said later that he has 3 years left on his contract.
No contract extension for Kun Aguero?!
Manchester Evening News has quoted the Hernan Reguera of Aguero’s management company, who has suggested that Kun has only has 2 years left on his contract. Reguera said that the player’s contract expires in the summer of 2019. When asked if tehre would be an extension, he said “No, we haven’t spoken about it for the moment, and we’re fine with that. He has two more years left on his contract and the guy is happy, as are the club. No news for now, we’ll go on like this“.
Aguero’s manager has also said “There is no doubt and fear – Sergio will remain at Manchester City, for sure. There have never been any offers, they have never presented him with the chance to leave City. As I said, he is happy and will remain”.
Reguera has also dismissed the notion that Aguero does not have a good professional relationship with the his manager. Both Guardiola and Aguero have stated clearly that there are issues between them.
Asked about Sergio Aguero’s objectives Reguera said that he “wants to help the team win both the Premier League and Champions League” in the new 2017/2018 season.
Why Aguero could leave City?
Sergio Aguero is among the best No 9 players in today’s football. He could be compared to very few. He has scored 15 goals in his last 17 games and is currently at the highest in his career – 33 goals for the season. It also looks like he has adapted to Guardiola’s requirement to be more involved in the game when City doesn’t have the ball and more effective in approach work.
Aguero has just turned 29 and he still has 2 or 3 seasons ahead, in which he could to play at a top level. Unlike most other forwards or No 9, the Argentinian is a versatile offensive player who could spend the rest of his career playing playing on the flanks or as No 10 and he’d still contribute a lot to his team achieving double digits per season in terms of goals and assistances.
The Argentinian striker is just not a “Plan B” player and at this moment of his career cannot afford to be a second-choice striker. The Times newspaper claimed that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are considering a bid of £60 million to sign Kun Aguero. The newspaper says that PSG want to “make a marquee signing this summer”. It looks that, at least for now, this would remain a transfer speculation only. However, it is more likely Kun Aguero to stay at Etihad for another season if things work on the pitch both for him and for the club.
