Newcastle United behind schedule with the new transfers?

Rafa Benitez will hold key transfer meetings as the Newcastle United management is reviewing the club’s summer plans. He is expected to urge the club to speed up its transfer operations and to close on the targeted new players as soon as possible.

It’s difficult to keep anything quiet in Newcastle when it comes to football, with supporters always keen to know the latest gossip.

This is what The Evening Chronicle’s Chief sports writer Lee Ryder, said in his late arcticle about Newcastle United’s transfer business. Chronicle reported in its Newcastle United section that Benitez has wanted to bring to the team at least 5 players before the star of the pre-season training. The transfer market has been very difficult for Newcastle so far.

Rafa Benitez manager wants to finish with his summer transfer business by Sunday, August 6, when Newcastle United play welcome the Italian side Hellas Verona at St. James’ Park in their last pre-season friendly.

It is believed that The Magpies are close to sign the Spanish Eibar’s defender Florian Lejeune. They have triggered his £8.7 million release clause. It is expected Lejeune to sign a four-year deal with Newcastle. He is an universal footballer who can play both as defender and defensive midfielder. Last season he has made 34 appearances for Eibar and scored 1 goal.

Newcastle’s managing director Lee Charnley is believed to be currently under pressure to arrange the transfers of the players that Rafa Benitez wants to sign ahead of the new Premier League season.

One of the players who is believed to be in the Benitez list is the Benfica’s midfielder Andreas Samaris, but he has been set a price tag of £17.5 million.

Another player, who has been linked with a move to St. James’ park is Martin Skrtel. His is under contract with Fenerbahce, but the Turkish club needs to sell players this summer, as they have been found of breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Ryan Boudebouz, the Algerian midfielder of Montpellier, who has scored 13 times in 71 games for the French club is another player who would move to Newcastle this summer. However, The Northern Echo reported that Montpellier would be willing to sell him if The Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul goes the other direction.

Newcastle are also linked with the 25-year-old St. Etienne’s right-back Kevin Malcuit, who had an impressive season in French Lugue 1.
