The first defensive signing for Antonio Conte during the summer transfer windows is Roma’s central defender Antonio Rudiger. The Italian media reported that Chelsea will pay a £33.4 million fee to bring the defender to Stamford Bridge. Money wise, it is a successful transfer for the Blues as Roma have initially rejected a Chelsea bid of £30 million (€35 million), but have subsequently accepted a deal which requires the London club to pay an initial €33 million (£29m) fee with an extra £4.3 million (€5 million) in bonus payments.
Rudiger is currently at the Confederations Cup with Germany and is expected to play against Chile in the tournament’s final. Despite being a center-half he can also play as a right-back.
Another defensive reinforcement for the Blues is the Monaco’s defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. He is expected to go through medial in London and to complete £35 million transfer to Chelsea. The Premier League champions identified the Monaco’s 22-year-old defensive midfielder as a priority player to sign this summer.
After the transfers of Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko are officially announced, Chelsea is expected to sign 2 or 3 other players this summer as Antonio Conte wants to reinforce his team to compete successfully for the Champions League and Premier League next season. It is believed that another player that would follow Rudiger and Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge will be the Juventus wing-back Alex Sandro.
