Willy Caballero is already a Chelsea goalkeeper. The Argentine has been released by Man City at the end of his contract, which expired at the end of June 2017.
The 35-year-old Caballero is expected to be the No 2 goalkeeper at Chelsea and to provide backup for Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea needed to sign a new goalkeeper after Asmir Begovic decided to join Bournemouth. It is expected the Portuguese Eduardo to be the club’s third choice goalkeeper.
“I am very happy to join Chelsea, the champions of England. I’m looking forward to meeting the guys and to help the club achieve more success in the coming season”, said the Argentine goalkeeper to the Chelsea website.
Caballero came to Premier League from Malaga in 2014 and played 26 times in all competitions for Manchester city last season. He was part of the Argentinian team that won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
Since joining the Spanish club Elche, Caballero was their first-choice goalkeeper before moving to Malaga in 2011.
Malaga finished sixth the season 2012/2013 with significant contribution from Willy Caballero. At the end season 2013/2014 he has been was nominated for the La Liga’s best goalkeeper award alongside Keylor Navas.
