Jose Mourinho to give minutes to all Man United players during pre-season

Jose Mourinho might have an idea about the players who will play central roles in his starting 11 within the next few months, but he wants to give playing time for all Man united players during the pre-season.

Speaking to the MUTV after United 2-1 victory against Real Salt Lake Mourinho said that he will not stop rotating and changing his full team when he plays against big opponents during the pre-season. The Portuguese manager said that he wants to give minutes to all Man United players before the start of the new Premier League season.

“I will try to go for 60/30 and some players can play 60 minutes against Manchester City and then they will play 30 minutes against Real Madrid and vice versa. The tactical work we do in training, behind the closed doors, then we go to the matches and of course we try to do the things we have done in training. But it’s very important for everybody to compete and we are going to try to do that”, explained Mourinho.

He said that it is obvious that Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are teams that play at highest possible level, so it would be a good experience for most Man United players to face them during the pre-season. “I don’t know how they will look to the game, maybe the other teams will have the same philosophy as us, maybe not. I know Manchester City is our city rival, I know Real Madrid is the European champion but it’s not so important for us to play for a result”, added the Portuguese manager.

Playing with three in defence?

Mourinho has been pushing for a significant change in Man united’s defence, as the team started preparing to play with 3 central defenders.

“It’s the difference between playing with three in the back or four in the back. When you play with three, you project with the wingers and you need the central defenders to drive and to come with the ball. When you play with four in the back, if you project with the right-back and the left-back, you only have two defenders and they have to share [the workload] and keep their position more. His quality of passing is always very good, he’s technically very good but obviously with three in the back, he has more freedom to attack spaces in midfield”, explained the MUFC manager.

Three important pre-season games!

On July 21, Manchester United face their local rival Man City at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The game starts at 03:00 BST.

Two days later on July 23 United play against Real Madrid at Levi’s Stadium, in Santa Clara, California. It is going to be easy for the Manchester local fans to watch this friendly as it starts around 22:00 BST.

On July 26 26 JULY the Red Devils will pay FC Barcelona at FedEx Field, in Landover, Maryland. The game starts at 00:30 BST.

Would there be some exits for Man United stars this summer?

Mourinho said that Juan Mata has a “big ankle but hopefully nothing really important”. His assessment is that the play would be out for no more than a week.

With the media reports that Manchester United have been advancing in their pursuit of the Inter Milan offensive midfielder Ivan Pericis, it might be Juan Mata, who’s playing time would be reduced next season.
