The Premier League season has finally started and the fans are anxious to find out how would their favorite club open the 2017/2018 campaign. Here are COL’s predictions for the opening weekend.
Arsenal v Leicester
Arsenal need to be very concentrated this Friday evening. They have won this fixture within the last three season by one goal only (2:1 and 1:0). Leicester have improved their squad this summer and are capable of taking some point at Emirates. I’m going for an Arsenal win – 1:0.
Watford v Liverpool
Liverpool have had a good preseason. Their defense look better and they have a nuclear attack i the like of Firmino, Mane and Salah. Philippe Coutinho will not play, but this should not be a problem for Reds as they have enough quality in the midfield. However, his transfer request came at a moment, when the Reds’ players should be focused on the Premier League opening and the subsequent Champions League game against the German TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Many football experts underestimate the Reds chances to win the league or to finish in the top for. Still, Jurgen Klopp’s men are ready to make a flying start tomorrow – 0:2 for Liverpool.
Chelsea v Burnley
Chelsea have already played one competitive game, the one for the Community Shield and they have drawn it against Arsenal in the regular time. This fixture is a must win for Chelsea and anything else bu a win would be a big surprise. It look to me that the Blues would win by 2:0.
Crystal Palace v Huddersfield
It is not going to be an easy fixture for Crystal Palace. Huddersfield town defend well and I do not see a lot of goals in this game. 1:0 for Palace.
Everton v Stoke
Everton fans would be excited to see the new Ronald Koeman’s Toffees. They might be a little nervous in their fist Premier League home game. Stoke City know how to defend and would make it difficult for Everton to win this fixture, but it looks to me that the Toffees would win it by 1:0. It could be a Wayne Rooney goal?
Southampton v Swansea
Both the Saint and the Swans have had to improve their squads during the summer. Both clubs have issues with Virgil van Dijk and respectively Gylfi Sigurdsson. Saints look a little bit better team and I’d go for 1:0 here.
West Brom v Bournemouth
I have a feeling that Bournemouth would win this fixture. West Brom have been a bit disappointing last season. It looks like they are not progressing and they’d pay the price for that. 0:1 win for the Cherries.
Brighton v Man City
On paper, this is a game that Man City should win on a landslide. However, Brighton are well organized side and I don;t think that it is going to be easy for Pep Guardiola’s men. The key for Seagulls is to prevent City to play with the ball as much as they can and to prevent their wingers to attack. It looks like 1:2 win for Man City to me.
Newcastle v Tottenham
Newcastle have a good team and a great manager, but they are nowhere near Spurs in terms of footballing qualities. Still, the Magpies have a chance to win this game, but it is going to be very hard for them. I’m going for a 1:2 win for Tottenham.
Manchester Utd v West Ham
It is hard to believe that united would miss to win their fist home game. The in-form Hammers can draw or win a fixture like that, but I don’t see it happening this Sunday. It looks like a 2:0 win for the Red Devils.
