What is going to happen at the top of the Premier League table? The two Manchester clubs currently share the top spot, while Chelsea ranks third. Will Man City and Man United win their games this weekend?
West Ham vs Tottenham
The Hammers won their home fixture against Spurs within the last two seasons by 1:0. The Slaven Bilic side haven’t enjoyed a good start of the current Premier League campaign, however. Spurs on the other hand are very good, but have been unconvincing in their home games against Burnley and Swansea. They should win on their visit to London Stadium, as they are the better side.
However, West Ham can get a point if they score a goal and a strong defensive performance. Slaven Bilic needs to get something out of this game and I think that the Hammers will play for their manager.
Burnley vs Huddersfield
This game sound like a draw to me. Both team have enjoyed a good start of the season and although that Burnley are the more experienced side in the Premier League, Huddersfield probably have a better defence.
Everton vs Bournemouth
I cannot imagine the Toffees to loose this future. Anything else but a win will undermine the Ronald Koeman’s plan to develop Everton to a regular Top 6 side and to challenge for trophies. Everton have recently conceded to many goals. Their defence was expected to be one of the best in the league, but it is actually not. The Toffees conceded 10 goals so far. The home fixture agains Bournemouth is a good chance for Koeman’s team to climb the table.
Everton win: 3:1
Manchester City vs Crystal Palace
Any prediction different than a home win would sound exotic, wouldn’t it? The Eagles haven’t scored in their first five games and Etihad stadiums doesn’t look like a place where they’d change this negative trend. Roy Hodgson doesn’t have ideas how to stop Man City and even if he had, it would be virtually impossible to implement it. The only thing Hodgson would do is ask his players to recall their defensive performances under Sam Allardyce… This is nonsense, isn’t it?
Man City to win: 4:0
Southampton vs Manchester United
The Saints found some hidden recipe on how to finish in the middle of the table season after season, not matter who they sell or bring to St Mary’s Stadium. The have won three points last weekend and should not be under pressure in their home game against United.
Jose Mourinho’s team developed a very interesting concept this season – their success is based on their patience on the pitch. United look very solid in the back, while upfront they are sharp and take advantage from every single mistake made by their opponents. Those teams who want to win points against this Jose Mourinho side, should either score a lot of goals or just stop United’s strikers. Southampton will give it a try…
Man united to win: 1:3
Stoke City vs Chelsea
This should be a very interesting game. Mark Hughes is going to welcome another team he played for. On September 9th, when Manchester United – one of the clubs Mark Hughes played for – came to Britannia Stadium, Stoke City won a point. Stoke have a decent record against Chelsea, despite that they have lost both games against the Blues last season. Everything can happen in a game like this. This why, I’ll go for a…
Swansea City vs Watford
Swansea have managed to win 5 points so far, by scoring only 2 goals… This either means that they have been very effective or that they have been really lucky? Watford’s 0:6 loss at home against Man City would not reflect on the Hornet’s capabilities to put a good performance at Liberty Stadium. This is not a game I would include into my betting stake, as it look unpredictable to me. A draw is probably a reasonable result.
Leicester City vs Liverpool
Liverpool have a serious “general defending problem” as Klopp called it, despite that he has refused to admit it. Who knows, maybe his is right, the Reds have had a poor defensive record within the last three or four seasons. It has become a negative tradition for the Liverpool’s defence to fail the team. The only recipe that Jurgen Klopp has against that is to attack. If Liverpool score more goals, they usually win the games. This Wednesday, the have played very well during the first half at King Power Stadium. However, they haven’t scored and when the Foxes have taken the lead, the young Liverpool players were unable to get back to the game.
This Saturday is going to be a completely different game, despite that Liverpool have a lot of defensive worries. They might need to play without their main central defenders Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip, while the midfielder Emre Can is also doubtful. But Liverpool’s win does not lay on a strong defensive performance, it last on their strikers ability to score. I looks to me that this time, they will.
Liverpool to win: 1:2
Brighton vs Newcastle
This game sound like a draw to me. Newcastle won this fixture last season when both teams battled for the Championship’s title, but now The Seagulls need points much more than they did last season. However, this is another game i would not include into my betting stake.
Arsenal vs West Brom
Those who have written Arsenal off after they 4:0 loss at Anfield, would probably fee awkward in a month if the Gunners enter the top 4. Arsenal have failed only once within the last decade to rank among the best and it was last season. Now their team is strong than it was in 2016/17. I think that they will win at home against West Brom and if some of their opponent fail to win their games, the Gunners will claim their spot among the top 5 teams on Monday night.
Arsenal to win: 2:0
