25 years ago Norwich won against Bayern Munich in UEFA Cup and became the first English club that found a win at the Olympic Stadium. Those were their glory days and 25 years later they are playing in Championship. Although they were relegated from Premier League two seasons ago, they still haven’t lost their hope as they are doing their best to go up and get a promotion. On 25 May 2017, Daniel Farke was appointed as new Norwich manager. He had some good seasons in Borussia Dortmund II, and this was a chance for both his career and Norwich City to step up.
Transfers to improve their defence?
This summer they brought a lot of defenders and they spent quite a lot of money to improve their defence for an upcoming season. They bought Grant Hanley from Newcastle and Marcel Franke from Greuther Furth but it hasn’t work out great for both of the defenders. Central midfielder Marco Stiepermann came from Bochum and he is regularly playing as a left-back. Centre-back Christoph Zimmermann, who came with Daniel Farke from Borussia Dortmund II, has found his place in a squad and is playing regularly too.
Do Norwich have a chance to fight for play-offs?
Although they currently sit in 13th spot, they are only 4 points away from play-offs. But with all the defenders they have brought on summer, they are having a hard time trying to defend against better sides. And with good attack, you will have a privilege to concede a few goals, but Norwich’s attack has not been affective this season and if they are aiming for play-offs, they need to sort their attack out. Cameron Jerome will need to work harder to hit his form back, because what Norwich really need at this moment is for him to be a striker that he has been last season.
Getting to play-offs on minus goal difference?
After Huddersfield Town has got a promotion with negative goal difference, it would be nothing new if Norwich managed to do the same. Similar style of play and similar managers are what both Huddersfield and Norwich have in common. But even with the fact that getting a promotion with minus goal difference is possible, it would be hard for Daniel Farke to get a promotion on his first season as a Norwich manager. He needs more options upfront and they should probably spend more money in January to sign a decent forward.
Next few fixtures to get Norwich back in the game?
After losing to Bolton, Norwich will need a few wins to get back in fight for play-offs. Next few fixtures will not be easy for them, they have games with Nottingham Forest, Preston, Cardiff and Leeds, and all of these clubs have made a good start of the season. However, Norwich is not an easy opponent, and with their ambition they will give their best to try and win most of these matches. Since international break is coming while they are having a bad run, they can take their time to find a solution and get back in form. Daniel Farke should try to motivate his squad, because if you want to be among the best, giving an 80% of yourself is not enough. The team needs to give their best in next few fixtures, both for their manager and the fans.
