In midweek we only had two Championship matches, but now the weekend comes and we can enjoy the real action as lots of clubs are playing tough games in which they’ll need to win. Some clubs started to struggle only now, while the others hit their form lately and are having a tough challenge to continue that good run in this gameweek. Ipswich has not only stopped Derby County from securing their spot in play-offs, but they also came 3 points closer to take that play-off spot away from Derby. In order to do that, Ipswich will have to win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. But will they get away from Middlesbrough who is playing against Bristol City, and Leeds who is playing against Aston Villa too?
Cardiff vs Norwich
This will be a hard game on Friday. Cardiff is in excellent form, but Norwich has been a tough opponent this season. This game is not promising a lot of goals, but it is promising a lot of excitement as Cardiff will need to win matches like this if they mean to secure their second spot. Cardiff still hasn’t lost a single game at home and Norwich is not a team they will lose against. If they score earlier in a game it will be easier for them to secure a win and play the rest of the game without pressure. Cardiff is a better side, and Norwich will aim for a draw, but we should expect from Cardiff to win this one easily.
Cardiff to win: 2-0
Leeds vs Aston Villa
Another game on Friday is promising a lot more action as Leeds will welcome Aston Villa and both clubs will try to take all three points. This game will provide us more excitement as more goals are to be expected. Samuel Saiz and Egzijan Alioski will have a tough challenge in trying to break Aston Villa’s magnificent defence. Leeds will focus on their attack as they are better at scoring, while Aston Villa can rely on their defence and try to score on counter. Depending on which side is going to open a game with a goal we’ll see how many goals are to be scored.
Bolton vs Barnsley
Both clubs are struggling at a bottom, and both clubs are expecting to gain some easy points from this one. Barnsley is maybe on a better position than Bolton, but they are not playing better as they concede a lot. Bolton on the other side is having a hard time finding a back of the net, and although both clubs are having a bad defence, this game does not promise a lot of goals. Even though Barnsley is a better side, draw will be a most likely outcome for this game.
Brentford vs Fulham
It is funny how Brentford lost their three points against QPR on Monday, and now Fulham is in better position than they are. Both clubs are good in attack, but Fulham is on a better run at the moment. Away from home they are playing good, but Brentford has lost only one game at home so far. As both clubs are good in attack, both clubs will probably score, but is any of these two sides good enough to win?
Derby vs Burton
On Tuesday, Derby lost at home against Ipswich and they missed their chance to secure their play-off spot. This time they will need to win, and playing against Burton is a perfect way to do that. Matej Vydra scored a hat-trick against Middlesbrough on Saturay, and I don’t see Burton’s defence stopping him from scoring again. Derby is in good form and their squad has more quality than Burton’s, so nothing but the Derby’s win should be expected from this game.
Derby to win: 2-0
Ipswich vs Nottingham Forest
Ipswich will have a tough challenge on Saturday as they need to win in order to continue their fight for play-offs. Luckily for them, Nottingham Forest has not been amazing away from home so far this season. Although they are not having a hard time finding a back of the net, they concede a lot and they lost 6 and won only 3 away games so far. Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner are hitting a great form with Ipswich as their partnership seems to be a key to Ipswich’s success. Both clubs will probably score, but with Ipswich playing at home, they have more chances for a win.
Ipswich to win: 2-1
Millwall vs Sheffield United
With Birmingham playing 9 men at the back, Sheffield United got only one point at home on Saturday. So now they are in position where they need a win if they want to continue their fight for a second spot. Millwall is a tough opponent, but with them playing good at home, this will be an easier task for Sheffield United and their attack as they will feel more free in attack than they have been against Birmingham. Both Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp have been amazing for Sheffield United this season, and it is expected for at least one of them to score against Millwall on Saturday.
Sheffield United to win: 0-1
Preston vs QPR
QPR still hasn’t won a single game away from home this season. They concede a lot while Preston has been good in scoring goals at home so far. For Preston this is a good chance to get closer to play-off spot as they are picking up their form and securing some good results lately. This game is not promising a lot of goals, but it is promising a lot of excitement with Preston being a slightly better side.
Preston to win: 2-0
Sheffield Wednesday vs Hull
Sheffield Wednesday has been on a good run lately while Hull is still struggling to find a good result. Hull is conceding a lot, while Sheffield Wednesday is good in attack, especially at home. Gary Hooper will be a big threat for Hull’s defence as he is in great form lately. Hull is having a lot of injuries which is one of the biggest reasons why they are having a bad season, so this should be an easy game for Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday to win: 2-0
Sunderland vs Reading
With a win against Burton in their last game, Sunderland’s squad should be more confident to find their first win at home this season. Although Reading is a better side, they have a lot of injuries that can stop them from getting a good result. Knowing that Sunderland is better in attack, they will probably score against Reading, but if they don’t concede, we will know that Chris Coleman has really made a big change. At a moment, it looks like Sunderland is having a better chance to win this match.
Sunderland to win: 1-0
Bristol City vs Middlesbrough The last game on Saturday is maybe the biggest game we’ll get to watch that day. Bristol City is taking on Middlesbrough and both clubs are in the position to fight for a win. After their loss against Leeds and Derby County, Middlesbrough has proved that they are having a hard time playing against their direct opponents. On the other side, Bristol City is showing a better form when they play away from home. With Britt Assombalonga having a great time in attack for Middlesbrough, and Bobby Reid doing the same for Bristol City, this game will certainly give us a lot of excitement.
Birmingham vs Wolves
Last match in this gameweek will be played on Monday when Wolves will try to continue their amazing run and win against Birmingham. Although Birmingham has got a point against Sheffield United, Wolves has been a much better side than any other Championship team so far. Leo Bonatini and Diogo Jota will be a real threat to Birmingham’s defence as they have been magnificent for Wolves so far.
Wolves to win: 0-2
