Last Championship gameweek in 2017 is starting soon. Bristol City managed to get their second place, but now they have the biggest challenge this season. They will play at home against Wolves. Cardiff will play against Preston and they need to secure a good result before transfer window opens. Middlesbrough appointed Tony Pulis as their new manager, and his first test will be against Aston Villa at home. This will certainly be an interesting matchweek, and here are some predictions that we made.
Cardiff vs Preston
Cardiff will play against Preston on Friday night. They have lost against Fulham at home on Tuesday and now they need a win to get their second place back. However, there is an injury problem that is making these challenges for Cardiff a lot harder. They currently don’t have a striker who’s fit and it will be hard for them to find a back of the net. Preston is not conceding a lot and their away performance is quite good actually. This game can easily finish with both sides keeping a clean sheet.
Millwall vs QPR
After a good result against Wolves, Millwall can be confident enough to go for a win in this one. They have been magnificent at home so far this season while QPR has won only one away game. George Saville can make a difference as he’s been a top scorer for Millwall this season. When they play at home Millwall is a different team, they are a tough opponent and they always play to win.
Millwall to win: 2-0
Barnsley vs Reading
Reading has been on a bad run lately, but they are still in better form than Barnsley who hasn’t won in their last nine games. Barnsley can easily get down to relegation zone if they don’t improve their game soon and start winning. Playing against Reading is a good opportunity to end their bad run, but are they good enough to do that? Reading is playing better away from home and they can easily grab all three points here. Reading to win: 0-1
Birmingham vs Leeds
Now Leeds united is in play-offs again, and they can not afford to lose games like this. Birmingham is in terrible form this season as they struggle to find a back of the net. Leeds is better in attack so they can rely on Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez to make a difference. With a win, Leeds United can even get in better position with Derby County playing away against Ipswich. They should not only try to win, but to keep a clean sheet too.
Leeds to win: 0-2
Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday impressed with a 3-0 away win against Nottingham Forest, but on Saturday they will play against Brentford who’s in much better form than Nottingham. This game is promising a lot of goals as Brentford is conceding a lot, but their attack is excellent too. Both teams will probably score, but it will be hard for Sheffield Wednesday to win this one too. Ollie Watkins and Gary Hooper will have a lot of work on Saturday as more attacking football should be expected.
Brentford to win: 2-1
Burton vs Norwich
Norwich’s away performance is quite good this season, while Burton has been terrible at home. Burton has lost nine out of twelve home games so far as they are really struggling to score more than once in a game. Since Norwich is not so great in attack too we shouldn’t expect too many goals, and it is possible that the side that scores first is going to win the match with that one goal.
Norwich to win: 0-1
Hull vs Fulham
Fulham managed to be the first club to find a win in Cardiff this season. They are in amazing form, and they have an opportunity to continue winning and maybe get closer to play-offs with a win against Hull. Even though they are not conceding as many as they did, Hull is now struggling to score as they haven’t found a back of the net in their last three matches. Young Ryan Sessegnon has been impressive for Fulham this season and he can easily make a difference on Saturday again.
Fulham to win: 0-1
Ipswich vs Derby
Both clubs are in great form, and both clubs need a win. Ipswich has been excellent at home, while Derby has been good in away games too. The only thing we can say for sure is that this game is promising a lot of goals. Matej Vydra can easily score for Derby, while Martyn Waghorn can find a back of the net for Ipswich too. It is hard to say if any side is going to win as this kind of matches are mostly finishing with a draw.
Middlesbrough vs Aston Villa
With Tony Pulis being in charge of Middlesbrough, and Aston Villa playing more defensive football, we really can’t expect too many goals from this one. However, we can easily expect to see a better performance from Middlesbrough as Aston Villa has been in awful form lately. Britt Assombalonga has found a back of the net on Tuesday again, and maybe he can continue to produce wonders for Middlesbrough on Saturday against Aston Villa.
Middlesbrough to win: 1-0
Nottingham Forest vs Sunderland
Here is a chance for Nottingham Forest to end their bad run and get back on tracks. Sunderland has been playing better under Chris Coleman, but they are still one of the worst sides in Championship. Luckily for Nottingham, they play at home where they have been getting some excellent results throughout the season and Kieran Dowell and Daryl Murphy can continue their form and try to find a back of the net to secure all three points for Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest to win: 2-1
Sheffield United vs Bolton
After a win against Sunderland on Tuesday, here is another easy fixture for Sheffield United. Bolton is still in relegation zone, and their away performance has been awful this season. They still haven’t won a single away game, and Sheffield United will certainly try to utilize that and get all three points. Bolton’s defence will have a trouble keeping Leon Clarke from scoring as he has been magnificent for Sheffield United this season.
Sheffield United to win: 2-0
Bristol City vs Wolves
Last match in this gameweek will certainly be the best one. Bristol City will play at home against the best team in Championship this season. Wolves had a draw against Millwall this Tuesday, and now they need a win to secure their first place. However, Bristol City needs a win too in order to maintain second, so this will be an interesting game full of action. Diogo Jota will be the main man for Wolves on Saturday, while Bobby Reid can continue his form in order to help Bristol get some points.
