Fight for second place and play-offs continues, and although most of the clubs that are fighting for second spot are having easy games, battle for play-offs can be very entertaining this weekend. Fulham will play against Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough will play against Norwich, and Sheffield United will have an away game against Championship leaders, Wolves. Preston will also try to get closer to play-offs, and although they’ve lost their top scorer Jordan Hugill to West Ham, they are playing at home against Hull and they will certainly give their best to win.
Bolton vs Bristol City
What an opportunity for Bristol City! Every game in Championship is a tough one, but when you’re chasing a second spot, game against Bolton is something to be happy about. Win against QPR with ten men was certainly a boost to the team, but winning against Bolton on Friday can get Bristol City back on tracks. Against QPR, Famara Diedhiou proved to be excellent up front with Bobby Reid, but on Friday against Bolton, new signing Lois Diony might get a chance to prove himself. Bristol City is not short on forwards, and as their away performance has been magnificent this season, they will try to score as many as they can.
Bristol City to win: 0-3
Aston Villa vs Burton
Aston Villa have signed Lewis Grabban on loan, and they are most likely to be club that will compete with Derby County for a second spot. Their defence is well organized, they have Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass finding a back of the net quite often, and now with Lewis Grabban they are chasing a straight promotion. Burton on the other side is fighting a relegation battle, they have signed some youngsters on loan, but their squad still doesn’t possess enough quality to compete with clubs like Aston Villa.
Aston Villa to win: 2-0
Derby vs Brentford
Draw in away game against Millwall was alright, but this time Derby needs a win. If they draw or lose, they can easily lose their second spot too, but luckily for them, playing against Brentford at home should be easier than their last fixture. They haven’t scored in their last too game, but Matej Vydra and David Nugent are in good form as they proved that they can find a back of the net many times before. Brentford is conceding a lot, and although they are good in attack, Derby County has one of the best defences in Championship and they can easily keep a clean sheet against a side like Brentford.
Derby to win: 1-0
Fulham vs Nottingham Forest
Since Nottingham Forest found a win against Wolves, Karanka showed once again that he is a great manager. However, with recent signings of Serbian international Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ireland international Cyrus Christie, Fulham proved that they are looking to grab a promotion. They are having an amazing run of four won and seven undefeated games, their young talent Ryan Sessegnon looks unstoppable and they managed to keep all their key players. Nottingham Forest hasn’t been so great in away games so far, while Fulham have found a win in their last five home matches. Forest will try to get a point out of this one, but Fulham is having a better chance of winning.
Fulham to win: 2-0
Leeds vs Cardiff
Now, when I said earlier that most of the clubs that are fighting for second spot are having easy fixtures, I meant every club except Cardiff. They have been awful in their last few away games, and now they will play against Leeds United, club that desperately needs a win. Kemar Roofe and Pierre-Michel Lasogga failed to score against Hull and without Samuel Saiz, it wouldn’t be strange if they fail to find a back of the net again on Saturday. However, Cardiff City is struggling to score in away games too, so this game can easily get finished without any side finding a back of the net.
Norwich vs Middlesbrough
Tony Pulis is having a hard time finding a win at home, but Middlesbrough’s away performance is amazing since he arrived. They have scored three goals against Preston, than three again against QPR, now they will play against Norwich, a side that has been completely awful at home this season. Middlesbrough lost their young talent Martin Braithwaite as he went on loan to Bordeaux, and their transfer window wasn’t good enough, but they still possess more quality than Norwich. Britt Assombalonga will certainly start on Saturday, and hopefully for Middlesbrough, he will get back in form and find a back of the net.
Middlesbrough to win: 0-1
Preston vs Hull
Preston is silently getting closer to play-offs. Nobody is considering them as a threat, but they are in amazing form and can easily find their way to play-offs if they continue playing like they did so far. Hull on the other side is in awful form, they haven’t won any of their last eight matches, and they couldn’t find a back of the net in their last four. They are currently in the worst form in Championship, and considering a fact that they have won only one away game so far, it seems like they doesn’t stand a chance against Preston.
Preston to win: 2-1
QPR vs Barnsley
This will be a tough one. As Barnsley is getting up, QPR is getting down. It wouldn’t be surprise, if at some point, Barnsley get ahead of the QPR. After this game, that certainly won’t be a case. QPR is in bad form recently, but they have been good at home this season, they find it easier to find a back of the net at home and they will give their best to score against Barnsley as well. However, Barnsley has been a tough opponent lately, and this game is most likely to be finished with both sides getting a point.
Reading vs Millwall
Reading has signed Chris Martin from Derby County, and as they struggled to find a back of the net, this proven Championship goalscorer will certainly help them to get up. Playing at home against Millwall will be a good start; win against Burton on Tueday will certainly be a big boost for the team, but another win will mean they are getting back on tracks. Millwall hasn’t been good enough away from home this season, and they may struggle to get a goal against Reading on Saturday.
Reading to win: 2-0
Sheffield Wednesday vs Birmingham
Birmingham is not in relegation zone anymore, but their away performance is still awful. When you fight for survival, point is what you want to get from games like this, and since Sheffield Wednesday haven’t scored in their last five games, Birmingham stand a good chance of getting that one point. Good result in away game can be a big boost for a team too, and when you’re fighting a relegation battle, even a point counts like a win.
Sunderland vs Ipswich
Sunderland has signed Middlesbrough forward Ashley Fletcher on loan, but striker hasn’t really proved himself in Championship yet. He failed to achieve what Middlesbrough brought him for, and if he doesn’t find his form now, Sunderland can keep struggling to find a back of the net. Their defence is well organized, but it will be hard to stop Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner from scoring again. Ipswich is having a trouble at a back, but their defence can play without pressure against Sunderland as their attack is struggling to score.
Ipswich to win: 0-1
Wolves vs Sheffield United
This will probably be the most entertaining match in this Championship gameweek. Wolves will try to continue their winning run, but Sheffield United is a tough opponent for a challenge like that. Both sides will probably score, with Leon Clarke being in great form for Sheffield United, and Leo Bonatini and Diogo Jota being amazing for Wolves. Benik Afobe has also joined Wolves on loan from Bournemouth and it will be great to see him play for Wolverhampton again.
Wolves to win: 2-1
