Only two gameweeks are left in Championship, and this one will be crucial for some clubs. In relegation zone, play-offs and second place, nothing is certain yet. Some big games are ahead of us, and it will be quite fun to predict results for such an exciting gameweek.
Fulham vs Sunderland
Brentford and QPR are the biggest mistakes for Fulham this season, if they haven’t conceded at least one of those two goals, they would’ve been second now. They depend on Cardiff, and they will be waiting them to make a mistake in next two games. But on Friday, Fulham will play against Sunderland, the side that has been relegated to League One. Fulham is unbeaten in their last 22 matches, that’s an incredible record and, although it will be tough, they need a win against Sunderland on Friday. They’ve got an away win against Millwall, with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Kevin McDonald and Aleksandar Mitrovic, they look prepared to continue their fight for a second spot, and game against Sunderland should be an easy task for them.
Fulham to win: 2-0
Aston Villa vs Derby
Derby County has a really good chance to stay in play-offs, but if they don’t get a win against Aston Villa, they can be in a tough position. In their last match, Derby has won at home with 2-0, but are they able to do that again? I don’t think so. Derby is really struggling lately, and Aston Villa is in quite a good form. Defensively, Villa is a better side, they have secured play-offs and game against Derby can be a good test for them. Derby will work hard to find a win, but it will be tough for them not to concede in away game against Aston Villa.
Aston Villa to win: 2-1
Barnsley vs Brentford
Brentford is unbeaten in their last seven games, they are still fighting for play-offs, but Barnsley is fighting for survival. This will be a really tough game, both sides need a win, and both sides can’t afford to make mistakes. I am expecting a lot of goals from this one, although Brentford is not conceding too many lately. If you look at a form and a quality of a team, Brentford is certainly a better side, it will be tough to win a game like this, but I believe that Brentford is good enough to find a win on Saturday.
Brentford to win: 1-2
Burton vs Bolton
This is a relegation battle at its finest. Burton and Bolton are direct opponents and they both need a win. Burton has been in a better form lately, but their home performance has been awful this season. However, Bolton has been bad in away games too, so this game will be quite equal. I expect goals on both sides; they are both conceding a lot and they are both fighting for survival. For me, although Burton is in better form currently, they are not good enough to win and I expect a draw from this one.
Hull vs Cardiff
If Fulham wins, Cardiff will play under pressure, but they are still one point above Fulham and game against Hull shouldn’t be a hard task for them. Hull has been in good form recently, they pulled a few surprises, but they are still not good enough to compete with Cardiff. Although Hull is scoring a lot lately, I expect Cardiff to keep a clean sheet as they are well organized in defence and they are well aware that they can’t afford any mistakes. This may be a tough one, but I believe that Cardiff is too good not to win this one.
Cardiff to win: 0-2
Norwich vs Leeds
At this point of the season, this is actually quite unimportant match. Both clubs are safe and both clubs can’t reach play-offs anymore. They can’t go up, but they don’t want to go down, so both clubs will try to win this one. As Leeds is quite awful in defence lately, I expect them to concede. Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez are in good form lately so I expect them to score too, but if you look at the results in last 20 games, Norwich is having a much better chance of winning.
Norwich to win: 2-1
Nottingham Forest vs Bristol City
Bristol City finished their last match against Hull with an amazing 5-5 result, but sadly, they’ve lost their chance of getting back in play-offs with that result. On Saturday, I don’t expect too many goals, Nottingham Forest is defensively better side than Hull and in this game, Lee Johnson should try anything but his 4-4-2 formation again. Bristol City is excellent in attack, they concede a lot but their defence won’t have too much work against Nottingham Forest, so for me, Bristol City can easily score at least once and win this game.
Bristol City to win: 0-2
QPR vs Birmingham
Garry Monk did his job with Birmingham and they are quite safe now. However, they are not officially safe yet, and a good result against QPR can get them that too. QPR has been good at home this season; they have won 50% of their home matches and they are playing some nice attacking football at home. I expect a lot of goals from this one, both teams will more or less play without pressure and both teams will probably score. Lukas Jutkiewicz has been in great form since Garry Monk arrived and I expect him to continue that form on Saturday.
Reading vs Ipswich
Reading has improved their home performance, while Ipswich has been generally bad in away games this season. This might be a tough one, but after a really bad finish of what started as a good season for Ipswich, they don’t seem to be good enough to win against any side. Reading is defensively better under Paul Clement, they don’t score much, but they work hard to keep a clean sheet and score at least one in order to secure a win. For me, Reading is having a better chance of winning this one.
Reading to win: 1-0
Sheffield United vs Preston
It might be for the best that Sheffield United hasn’t got promoted this season. They are an excellent side, but they are not yet ready to play in Premier League and for me, they need to play at least one more season in Championship before they get promoted. Preston had a really good chance to get closer to play-offs, but they never managed to score in their last game against Norwich. Preston is good in away games, but Sheffield United will play without pressure, they are excellent in attack, and on their day, their defence is amazing too. Preston failed to get a win in games that were much more important, and I believe that they will fail to get a win once again on Saturday.
Sheffield United to win: 2-1
Wolves vs Sheffield Wednesday
Now, here is a chance for Wolves to get more than 100 points, and it’s quite a realistic one too! Sheffield Wednesday has been awful when it comes to an away performance this season, and they are just not good enough to compete with Wolves. Wolves have officially won the league and they might not put their strongest side, but as long as a few of their key players are on, Wolves are having a better chance to win.
Wolves to win: 3-0
Middlesbrough vs Millwall
The last game will be the one with direct opponents. Middlesbrough will meet Millwall as both sides are fighting for play-offs. Middlesbrough is in much better position, if they win – they have secured play offs, but can they get a win against Millwall? Well, it will be tough. Millwall has lost against Fulham in their last match, but they are still in excellent form. They know what a stake is here and they will not give up. Both sides will try to win, and although Middlesbrough is in much better position, I expect a draw from this one.
