We will finally watch play-offs on Friday and it’s Derby County against Fulham. An ex Swansea manager, Garry Monk, has helped Cardiff to get promoted with his win over Fulham, so now Fulham needs to try their chances through the play-offs. Derby County almost got Aston Villa in play-offs, but Patrick Bamford has scored a last minute equalizer for Middlesbrough on Sunday, to secure their 5th place and Aston Villa for their first opponent in play-offs.
Slavisa Jokanovic needs to make his team stay confident in play-offs?
Fulham is in best form and they simply have the best squad out of all the teams in play-offs. However, I don’t think that they have the biggest chance to play in Premier League next season. They have lost the most important game in their season on Sunday against Birmingham and they will need a lot of confidence to continue fighting in play-offs like nothing happened. Their attack is not a problem, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ryan Sessegnon has formed an amazing partnership, and although they have missed their chances against Birmingham, they can easily continue their form in play-offs.
Fulham needs to be better in defence?
What we saw from Fulham’sdefence on Sunday wasn’t good enough for play-offs. If they conceded three against Birmingham, how many will they concede against Derby County? It’s not just that Fulham never had enough chances in attack against Birmingham, but all three goals that they’ve conceded came from a poor defence, and that’s something that Slavisa Jokanovic needs to concentrate on. They cannot make mistakes in play-offs because every mistake can cost a promotion, and they certainly cannot defend the way they did against Birmingham. The solution needs to be a midfield, because if they don’t lose possession in midfield like they did against Birmingham, it will be easier for Fulham not to concede that many against Derby County. However, even if Fulham plays excellent in midfield, they still need to concentrate on a game, and they need to stop making poor individual mistakes like they did against QPR and Brentford.
Derby County needs to win at home?
In order to get to the finals, Derby County has to get a win at home against Fulham. They are lucky enough that their first game will be at home, and they have to use that advantage. It’s quite simple, if Derby County wins, they will go in the next game with an advantage, and they will play against the team who lost their last two games, so Fulham might lose their confidence by the time they play their second match. Cameron Jerome has been excellent for Derby County in their last three games and he needs to continue that form against Fulham. What Gary Rowett needs to do is to start Jerome before David Nugent, because although he scored more, Nugent has been quite inconsistent this season, and that’s something that Derby County can’t afford in play-offs.
Only attacking football can help Derby County to secure a win?
You can’t defend against Fulham, if they have possession it will be much harder for you to score against them. With attacking game, you’ll have much more chances against Fulham, and that’s something that Gary Rowett needs to realize before their first game. When it comes to an attack, Derby County has been impressive this season, they have scored 70 in 46 games, and everyone should expect them to continue scoring in play-offs. Matej Vydra is Championship top scorer with 21 goals, and he needs to get that form back for their game against Fulham. Their biggest problem is their defence, they concede too many, but they have been well organized in the big games so far. Still, the fact that they concede too many only confirms the fact that they don’t have a good chance of getting to Wembley if they chose to defend against Fulham.
