Championship Predictions: Aston Villa and Leeds to win? Wigan and Nottingham Forest to split points?

Millwall vs Nottingham Forest

Another gameweek in Championship is certainly bringing us a lot of excitement, Middlesbrough will try to stay on top, while Aston Villa, Leeds United and Swansea will all try to continue their amazing form. Some of the teams are already showing that they will fight for survival this season and that every Championship season is even tougher then the last one. Here are our predictions for this Championship gameweek.

Birmingham vs Swansea

Garry Monk is still waiting for a win this season, and he may get it against his former club, Swansea. Birmingham was unlucky to get only a point in their first home game against Norwich and this time they will certainly go for a win. Swansea is excellent in defence, but Birmingham is excellent in attack, Lukas Jutkiewicz showed a great form in pre-season, and he can easily continue that in their home game against Swansea. Although Birmingham is playing an attacking football, Swansea will try to defend as good as they can, so I wouldn’t expect a lot of goals from this one.

Birmingham to win: 1-0

Bristol City vs Middlesbrough

Although they’ve lost a lot of key players, Middlesbrough is currently in great form. They are undefeated in their first three games, and they will work hard to continue that form. Bristol City on the other side had two draws so far, their attack is good, but their defence is certainly missing Aden Flint. I would expect another draw here, with both sides finding a back of the net.

Draw: 2-2

Hull vs Blackburn

Hull had a bad start, their performance was good against Aston Villa, but they are still making a lot of mistakes at a back. Blackburn had an impressive performance against Ipswich, but they never managed to score against Millwall in their last game. In this one, I expect a lot of goals, both teams are better in attack then they are in defence and both teams will work hard to get a first win this season. Although Blackburn looks like a better side, I believe that Hull is having a better chance of winning this one.

Hull to win: 2-1

Ipswich vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa continued their excellent form from the last season, they have won both of their first games and now they will play against Ipswich, the team that still waits for their first win this season. Ipswich looks really dangerous on the field, but their results are not as good as their performance. They struggled to score against Rotherham and it will be much harder for them to achieve that against Aston Villa. I don’t expect a lot of goals from this one, as Aston Villa is well organized in defence, but I expect an away win for Villa.

Aston Villa to win: 0-1

Leeds vs Rotherham

Rotherham conceded five in their first game against Brentford, can they really compete with a team that absolutely dominates the field against far better sides then Rotherham? I don’t think so. Leeds United scored 7 goals in their first two Championship games this season and they played against Stoke and Derby County. Their main striker, Kemar Roofe was a man of the match in both games, so he can easily continue scoring against Rotherham at home. Obviously, Rotherham will work hard to defend and get a point, but I still think that Leeds United will easily win this one.

Leeds to win: 3-0

Millwall vs Derby

After a terrible loss of 4-1 against Leeds United, Derby County needs to step up their performance and get back on the winning run. Away game against Millwall is never an easy one, but Derby County has enough quality to compete with them and try to win. However, Millwall will not give up, they haven’t won any of their two games so far and they will work hard to win at home. I expect both teams to score, but Millwall is very dangerous at home so they have a better chance to win.

Millwall to win: 2-1

Reading vs Bolton

Bolton started this season surprisingly well; they won their first game against WBA then they managed to get a point against Briston City. They are still undefeated and they will play against the team that lost both games so far. This game is all about attack, because Reading can’t afford to defend at this point, and Bolton is much better in attack. Both teams should easily score, but with Reading still struggling to find a back of the net more than once in a game, Bolton should have a better chance to win.

Bolton to win: 1-2

Sheffield United vs Norwich

Another match with a lot of goals should be this one, Sheffield United played three matches so far and none of them finished with less than three goals. On the other side, we saw 4 goals in Norwich’s first game and 7 in their second. So, we can expect an attacking football with both sides working hard to get all three points. But can any of these two sides get a win? I would expect a draw from this one, Sheffield United is good at home and Norwich was impressive in away games last season.

Draw: 2-2

Before they face Middlesbrough and Stoke, West Bromwich Albion should try and get another easy win against QPR. QPR haven’t showed much so far, they lost both of their two games this season and their performance against Sheffield United wasn’t that great. West Bromwich Albion scored 4 against Norwich and performance like that can really be a big boost for the team. This time, WBA should try to keep a clean sheet and since QPR is struggling to find a back of the net, they can easily achieve that.

WBA to win: 2-0

Wigan vs Nottingham Forest

I expect this to be a very exciting match. We shouldn’t expect a lot of goals, but Nottingham Forest can soon find out that Wigan can actually finish as one of the better Championship sides this season. There is a big difference in quality, Nottingham Forest brought all the right signings this summer, but Wigan has a team that’s bonding really well. Both teams will struggle to defeat the opponent and this game can easily finish with a draw.

Draw: 1-1

Preston vs Stoke

This will be a tough game for both teams, Stoke is expected to compete for a promotion this season and Preston is always a tough opponent. Gary Rowett still hasn’t won a competitive match with his new club and Stoke City will certainly go for a win in this one. With their experience and incredible attack, Stoke City should easily win against any side in Championship, but they will struggle against Preston as they play at home and they are well organized in defence.

Stoke to win: 0-1

Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday

There is no reason for Brentford not to continue their excellent form so far. Sheffield Wednesday hasn’t won any of their two games so far and their away performance wasn’t that impressive last season. We can expect a lot of goals once again as both sides are playing attacking football, but Brentford is much more dangerous in attack and the fact that they started their season at home so well is a big boost for a team and a reason for them to continue that form.

Brentford to win: 3-1
