International break is over and it is time for us to enjoy Championship football again. This pause was certainly a relief for some teams that had to work hard and improve their performance. We will see a lot of good games in this Championship gameweek, and although it is hard to predict what will happen in some of them, these are our predictions for this weekend in Championship.
Birmingham vs WBA
First match in this gameweek will be played on Friday night when Birmingham will host WBA. This should be an exciting match as both teams will work hard to get a win and both teams will concentrate more on their attack. WBA is scoring a lot while Birmingham has been struggling to find a back of the net; however Birmingham is creating a lot of chances, especially when they play at home, so I would expect both teams to score in this one. Although both teams will fight for a win, I wouldn’t be surprised if this game finishes with a draw.
Bolton vs QPR
It is tough for Bolton right now as certain negative things are happening within the clubs. We will talk about that in other occasion but those things should be an even bigger motivation for their team to get a win against QPR. They had a good start, they showed an excellent performance in every match they’ve played so far and games like this are the ones they have to win. QPR had a rough start, they’ve lost their first four matches and although they’ve improved their performance in last two games it will still be hard for them to get a good result against Bolton on Saturday.
Bolton to win: 1-0
Brentford vs Wigan
A lot of interesting matches will be played in this gameweek in Championship, but this one has to be one of the best. Nobody would’ve tough that these two clubs will have such a good start before the season begun. I expect both teams to score and I expect a lot of goals too. Nick Powell has been in excellent form for Wigan with 3 goals and 3 assists in first six matches this season. Neal Maupay has been even better for Brentford with 5 goals and 3 assists in four matches that he played so far. Although I expect both sides to fight for a win, Brentford is playing at home and they showed a better performance so far this season.
Brentford to win: 3-2
Bristol City vs Sheffield United
Another interesting match will be played in Bristol on Saturday. Sheffield United won four of their last matches, while Bristol City has won three. Both clubs are in excellent form, Bristol City won their last game 4-1 against Blackburn while Sheffield United also won 4-1 against Aston Villa. I wouldn’t expect so many goals in this one, but I expect both teams to score. There is no doubt that both sides will try to get a win, but the draw is the most likely outcome of this one.
Hull vs Ipswich
I expect a lot of action in this one, both clubs are playing an attacking football and both clubs are awful at the back. Ipswich still hasn’t won a single game but they have looked more confident on the pitch then Hull. In attack, both clubs are unlucky, they are struggling to score and that’s the biggest reason why they are at a bottom of the league. Although Ipswich had a really bad start, they have a better squad then Hull and they have a better chance of winning this one.
Ipswich to win: 0-2
Millwall vs Leeds
Millwall is struggling to defend this season and it will be really hard for them not to concede against Leeds United. Leeds has been by far the best team in Championship so far and there is no reason for them not to continue their excellent form. Patrick Bamford is injured, so Kemar Roofe will most certainly start as a striker in this one. I don’t expect Marcelo Bielsa to change anything in his line-up as he has certainly found the best formation for his team.
Leeds to win: 0-2
Norwich vs Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough kept five clean sheets in their six games so far, so can they keep another one on Saturday? As strange as it might sounds, I believe that they can. They are very organized in defence and although they are not creating a lot of chances, they are very dangerous from the set pieces. Norwich haven’t really made a good start, they are good in attack but they are conceding a lot and although they probably worked a lot on their defence during the international break, I still can’t see them keeping a clean sheet against Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough to win: 0-1
Preston vs Reading
This has to be the best opportunity for Preston to finally get a win. Reading still hasn’t won a single game and they are struggling to even get a point in Championship. With what they’ve done so far, both teams will have to go for a win, another draw is not good enough and considering the fact that Reading is very weak in defence, I would expect Preston to score at least one goal on Saturday.
Preston to win: 2-0
Rotherham vs Derby
This is another easy game for Derby County as they are looking to finish in Top 3 at the end of this round. Looking at the squad, Rotherham has to be one of the sides that are expected to fight a relegation battle. Derby County needs to win games like this, they still don’t have a good performance, but they are getting points and it should be expected from them to start playing better quite soon. I wouldn’t expect a lot of goals from this one, but I expect Derby County to score at least once.
Derby to win: 0-1
Sheffield Wednesday vs Stoke
Who would’ve thought that Sheffield Wednesday will be in a better position than Stoke City after first six games in Championship? Although Sheffield Wednesday is on the winning run, Stoke has a better squad and they need to get another win as soon as they can. This is a good opportunity for both teams to get a win, and I expect both teams to score. Peter Crouch should start once again for Stoke City as Benik Afobe hasn’t done a lot for the potters so far. Although Sheffield Wednesday is playing at home, for me, Stoke has a slightly better chance to win.
Stoke to win: 1-2
Swansea vs Nottingham Forest
With all the players they’ve brought on summer, Nottingham Forest should be winning more games than they do. They’ve lost their last game against Brentford and now they have to go for a win in Wales. Swansea is a strong side, they are well organized in defence and they are very dangerous in attack, especially at home. This would be a tough game for both sides as both teams will work hard in defence, but with a performance they’ve showed so far, Swansea is having a better chance to win.
Swansea to win: 1-0
Blackburn vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa has to improve their defence if they want to repeat their last season success. They’ve brought a lot of good players to improve their attack and it will certainly going to be hard for Blackburn to defend against them, but they need to organize their defence better too. Jonathan Kodjia has been excellent for Aston Villa so far and if he stays fit they won’t have to worry about a striker this season. Blackburn is still having a problem with their key player, Bradley Dack, being injured, so they will struggle to find a back of the net against Aston Villa.
Aston Villa to win: 1-2
