Championship Predictions: Aston Villa and Derby to win? Birmingham to lose?

Millwall vs Nottingham Forest

Another midweek round will start on Tuesday as things have change at the top of the Championship table. West Bromwich Albion now hold the first place and they will try to get another win to stay first after the end of this gameweek. Middlesbrough and Leeds both got only one point in their last match and they will have to work hard to win now as they are now fighting for the first place with WBA. These are Championship Predictions for this midweek round.

Aston Villa vs Preston

Aston Villa is in awful form, they couldn’t get an away win against Bristol City, but this time they have to work harder to get all three points. Preston is by far the worst side in Championship currently, they concede a lot, they’ve lost all five away matches so far and they simply can’t compete with teams like Aston Villa. Steve Bruce has a lot of options in attack, but they have to focus on their defence as Aston Villa is conceding too much lately. Although Aston Villa is in bad form, they are still a better side than Preston and they have a better chance of winning.

Aston Villa to win: 2-1

Brentford vs Birmingham

This is one of those games in which we can expect a lot of goals. Both sides are playing attacking football and both sides will go for a win. Birmingham finally started finding a back of the net and they are unbeaten in last six matches. Neal Maupay continued his form for Brentford on weekend and he is still Championship top scorer with 9 goals and 3 assists. Although Birmingham is in excellent form, Brentford is still fighting for a first place, they play at home and after they’ve lost points against Reading on weekend, they have to get a win now.

Brentford to win: 2-1

Hull vs Leeds

Leeds United can’t afford to lose any more points against teams that will fight a relegation battle this season. Middlesbrough couldn’t beat Hull, but Leeds United has to do it. Their current situation with injuries is preventing them from dominating the field like they did in first few matches, but they are still a strong side with excellent tactics and desire to get promoted. Hull is struggling to score this season, and considering the fact that Leeds United is well organized in defence, they can even keep a clean sheet in this one.

Leeds to win: 0-1

Ipswich vs Middlesbrough

Another side that has to start winning again is Middlesbrough. They are struggling to score more than one goal per match and that might be their biggest problem this season. However, I expect them to easily score against Ipswich as they have big problems in defence. Middlesbrough on the other side is well organized when it comes to defending and they should stop Ipswich from scoring on Tuesday. I don’t expect too many goals in this one, but I think that Middlesbrough is still in excellent form and ready to win this one.

Middlesbrough to win: 0-1

Wigan vs Swansea

Although one side got relegated from the Premier League and the other got promoted from League One, these two teams are in same form lately. They have the same amount of points and both teams will certainly go for a win. Wigan is still unbeaten at home; they won 4 matches and had 1 draw so far, while Swansea has been one of the better teams when it comes to an away performance. I expect both teams to score and although I said that both teams will certainly fight for a win, I expect a draw from this one.

Draw: 1-1

Reading vs QPR

Looking at their last few matches, Reading has actually been in excellent form. QPR is still awful when it comes to an away performance and they will most certainly struggle in this one. Jon Bodvarsson has been one of the best strikers in Championship so far this season and he never been in such an excellent form before in career. Although Reading has a big injury list, they finally started scoring more and they can go for a win against QPR on Tuesday.

Reading to win: 2-1

Stoke vs Bolton

Bolton just managed to beat Derby County at home, they are in good form this season and their overall away performance has also been great. Stoke City is still struggling to get results, they barely managed to get a point against Rothertham in their last match, and although they will play this one at home, I don’t think they have much bigger chance to win. I expect both teams to score in this one as Stoke plays at home, but they concede a lot. Bolton can be happy with a point and I believe that they can get it and continue their excellent form.

Draw: 1-1

Blackburn vs Sheffield United

This is another away match for Sheffield United as they are fighting to get a first spot. Blackburn Rovers has been quite good this season, they are a fair amount of goals and they look confident to compete with any side in Championship. Looking at away performances, Sheffield United has been the best side this season with Leeds United. Billy Sharp scored in their last two matches and it could be expected from him to score once again against Blackburn.

Sheffield United to win: 0-2

Derby vs Norwich

As I said earlier, Derby County lost their last match against Bolton as they didn’t had enough time to rest after their cup win against Manchester United. This time they will play at home against the team that is currently ahead of them on the table. Norwich hasn’t started this season very well, but they are currently the team with best form in Championship with WBA. They play an attacking football but they have been well organized in defence lately. Although Norwich is in such an excellent form, they had easier opponents than Derby County. I expect both teams to score in this one with Derby having a slightly better chance to win.

Derby to win: 3-1

Nottingham Forest vs Millwall

It can be said that Nottingham Forest is in good form since the season started, they’ve got a lot of draws but they started winning lately. Millwall on the other side can’t find their form from the last season; they are struggling to get a good result and they’ve only managed to get one point away from home this season. Lewis Grabban is finally back in form as he scored 4 goals in last 3 matches from Nottingham Forest. Millwall is struggling to score lately so I expect Nottingham Forest to keep a clean sheet in this one.

Nottingham Forest to win: 2-0

Rotherham vs Bristol City

Both teams got a point from their last match and both teams will start this match with confidence and desire to win. Rotherham scored only 8 goals so far this season and they will struggle to compete with Bristol City, the team with excellent attack. Andreas Weimann hasn’t scored for a while and this could be his chance to get back in that form from the start of the season. Although Rotherham lost only one home game so far, Bristol City has been excellent with away performance this season and I expect them to continue that form on Wednesday.

Bristol City to win: 0-1

Sheffield Wednesday vs WBA

Following Leeds United injury problems, West Bromwich Albion finally managed to get the first place. They have been excellent in attack this season and I expect them to continue that form against Sheffield Wednesday. Jay Rodriguez scored 7 goals this season while Dwight Gayle has 6 goals and 2 assists. I expect at least one of them to score on Wednesday as West Bromwich Albion will try to win another match and stay first at the end of this midweek round.

West Bromwich Albion to win: 0-2
