Championship Predictions: Aston Villa, WBA and Swansea to win?

A Fulham player celebrates

It seems that nobody can keep the first place in Championship this season so it will be very interesting to see if Sheffield United can do that. There will certainly be a lot of action in Championship this weekend as many teams are having an opportunity to get easy points. When it comes to Championship football, it is always hard to predict the outcome of the game, but we are still doing it. So these are our predictions for this weekend in Championship.

Aston Villa vs Bolton

People can always look at their form and say that Aston Villa won’t win this one, but the truth is losing points against Bolton would be a disaster for them. They have lost their last two matches, but at home Aston Villa has been excellent this season. Bolton had a good start, but now they are losing matches and it would be a big surprise if they manage to get a good result on Friday night. I don’t expect this to be a tough match for Villa, they have excellent team and they should be winning matches like this.

Aston Villa to win: 2-0

Blackburn vs QPR

The first thing that comes to my mind when it comes to this match is that both teams have to score. Looking at their form, this will be a very tough match. Blackburn has been in excellent form this whole season and recently they have won against Leeds and managed to get a point in away game against WBA. Steve McClaren managed to do with QPR what nobody expected him to do, but for me, the favorite in this game has to be Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn to win: 2-1

Brentford vs Millwall

A few weeks ago, Brentford was fighting for the first place, now they are very close to the relegation zone. But this is Championship and things like this shouldn’t surprise us. However, although they are in awful form, they have to give their best to get a win against Millwall. Neal Maupay is still Championship top scorer and I expect him to score once again on Saturday. When it comes to Millwall, their away performance hasn’t been great this season and I am expecting them to lose another away match this weekend.

Brentford to win: 1-0

Derby vs Birmingham

Derby County can be very unpredictable this season and it is hard to predict anything when it comes to this match. Birmingham is unbeaten in their last 11 matches and one big advantage that they have when it comes to this match is the fact that Derby County had a cup match against Chelsea on Wednesday. I expect both teams to score in this one and I expect both teams to work hard to get a win. However, I can’t see any of these two sides getting all three points, so draw seems to be the most likely result.

Draw: 1-1

Hull vs WBA

When nobody expected it, West Bromwich Albion dropped their form, but now they have the perfect opportunity to get back on the winning run. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Hull has been one of the worst teams in Championship so far as they are conceding far too many and struggle to find a back of the net. Dwight Gayle has been injured for West Bromwich Albion, but Bakary Sako is fit to play and we can expect him to score anytime soon. Although they are currently in bad form West Bromwich Albion simply has to win this one.

WBA to win: 0-2

Ipswich vs Preston

After Paul Hurst has been sacked, Paul Lambert took his place as Ipswich is struggling at the bottom of the league. So let’s see what Paul Lambert can do! Luckily for him, Ipswich will play against another team that has been awful this season, Preston. Although this is a good opportunity for both teams and although Preston has been good lately, their away record is still awful so this can be a great chance for Ipswich to grab their first home win. I don’t expect Ipswich to do anything until January, but I believe that they can win this one.

Ipswich to win: 2-1

Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United

Can Sheffield United be the club that will stay first two gameweeks in a row? That will be a tough challenge for them, but they will certainly work hard to achieve that. Billy Sharp scored a hat-trick in their last match against Wigan and I expect him to continue that excellent form on Saturday. Nottingham Forest just lost in cup against Burton and this will certainly be a hard match for them. Although I expect both teams to score, I believe that Sheffield United will be the one to win.

Sheffield United to win: 1-2

Reading vs Bristol City

Although Bristol City had a decent season so far, for some reason I can see Reading winning this one. Since John Swift has come back into team, Reading is playing better, they are scoring more goals and they look more dangerous. Bristol City is currently having problems with finding a back of the net and considering that Paul Clement often tries to rely on defence, Bristol City might continue their struggle. Reading hasn’t been the best team at home this season, but lately they have been changing that and I expect them to continue that form on Saturday.

Reading to win: 1-0

Rotherham vs Swansea

Rotherham is struggling to score this season, so considering their defensive skills, Swansea can easily keep a clean sheet in this one. When it comes to their attack, Swansea City hasn’t been among the best teams in the league, but they work hard and they are creating enough chances for their strikers to score against teams like Rotherham. Swansea is also very dangerous from set pieces, so if they gain more possession, they will probably have a lot of chances from free kicks and corners. They have won their last two matches, so I expect Swansea to continue their winning run.
Swansea to win: 0-2

Sheffield Wednesday vs Norwich

Norwich has been one of the best teams in the league when it comes to an away performance, while Sheffield Wednesday has dropped their form recently. I expect this to be a very tough match; I expect both teams to score as I am certain that both teams will go for a win in this one. Norwich is currently fighting for the first place, and although they have a big injury list, their main striker Teemu Pukki is back from injury and ready to play.

Norwich to win: 1-2

Stoke vs Middlesbrough

Last game on Saturday will be a clash between Stoke City and Middlesbrough. Stoke City has finally started winning and Middlesbrough won against Crystal Palace in cup game on Wednesday. The biggest problem with Stoke City is the fact that they are really struggling to score and it will be a very tough challenge to score against best defence in the league. Middlesbrough is also having problems with scoring, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this one finish with both teams keeping a clean sheet.

Draw: 0-0

Wigan vs Leeds

On Sunday, Wigan will meet Leeds United at home. This will be a very tough match for both teams. Wigan has been the best team at home in Championship so far, while Leeds United has generally been one of the best teams in Championship. I expect both teams to score in this one, and although Leeds is not having problem with injuries anymore, I don’t expect them to win this one.

Draw: 1-1
