This weekend we have an opportunity to watch a lot of big games. And it’s not only the big games that will bring an excitement, a lot of smaller ones are very important too. Norwich has an excellent opportunity not only to keep their first spot, but to get away from their opponents as all of them are having tough matches. These are the predictions for this Championship round.
Sheffield United vs Leeds
Leeds United managed to score only one goal against Reading, but they have been a dominant side throughout that whole match. It will be much harder to achieve that in away match against Sheffield United, but they are still in opinion of many people, the best team in Championship. Sheffield United is currently not in their best form, but they are still only one win away from the first spot. I expect a lot of action from this one, I expect both sides to score, but if I had to choose the team that has better chance to win, it would certainly be Leeds.
Leeds to win: 1-2
Birmingham vs Preston
Preston is unbeaten in their last 9 games, but they will struggle against Birmingham away from home. Birmingham has been excellent this season, and although they dropped form recently, their away win against Millwall has to be a big boost for their team. Lukas Jutkiewicz hasn’t scored against Millwall, but he is in excellent form and I expect him to be the key player on Saturday. Brimingham managed to get points at home against best sides in Championship and if they keep a clean sheet it will be even easier for them to get a win.
Birmingham to win: 2-0
Blackburn vs Sheffield Wednesday
Although these are currently the midtable teams, they are direct opponents and both will try to get a win. Blackburn has been in better form this season, but they lost their last two games, while Sheffield Wednesday was in quite a bad form before they’ve won against Bolton on Tuesday. If I had to choose a winner, I would go for Blackburn, but games like this are quite often finished with both teams taking a point.
Bolton vs Wigan
This is not only an opportunity for Wigan to improve their away record, but it’s an opportunity for them to improve their overall performance too. Only Ipswich has worse home record than Bolton and Wigan has been in better form this whole season. Nick Powell got injured for Wigan in their last match and I am not sure how serious the injury is, so that might be the big problem for them. However, I believe that Wigan is the better team and that they can get all three points on Saturday.
Wigan to win: 1-2
Derby vs Swansea
Both teams lost their last match and both teams need to win this one. They play different style of football and this has to be one of the most exciting matches this weekend. Although Swansea is more careful, I believe that Derby has a better team to win matches like this. Derby County is still quite close to the play-offs and they will certainly work very hard to get another win at home and gain more confidence. I don’t expect a lot of goals in this one, but I expect Derby County to be the better team.
Derby to win: 1-0
Norwich vs Rotherham
Norwich couldn’t get a win against Hull on Tuesday, but matches like that one happens to every team. They have another easy game, but this time they have to get all three points if they won to keep their first spot. Luckily for them, Rotherham has been one of the worst sides when it comes to an away performance, they still haven’t won a single away match and I can’t see them winning one this weekend. Although he hasn’t scored in last one, I expect Teemu Pukki to score on Saturday and continue his excellent form.
Norwich to win: 2-0
Nottingham Forest vs Ipswich
Nottingham Forest just had an amazing clash with Aston Villa that has finished 5-5, but don’t expect them to score that many in every game, even against the team that holds the last place. Nottingham Forest has an excellent attack, but it’s much harder to score against teams that are coming to take a point. They are excellent in defence, so I expect them to keep a clean sheet, and Lewis Grabban has been amazing in attack so far with 12 goals, so he can easily score on Saturday again.
Nottingham Forest to win: 2-0
QPR vs Hull City
Hull managed to get a point at home against Norwich, but I don’t expect them to getting points now because of that. They are in awful form this season and it will be hard for them to get a good result against QPR. When it comes to QPR, they’ve managed to score a late equalizer in both of their last matches, but this time I expect them to be dominant on the field and get another win. They are the better team, they play at home and they are still only one win away from play-offs.
QPR to win: 3-1
Reading vs Stoke
Stoke managed to win against Derby at home although they had a red card for about 60 minutes, but let’s see if they can beat Reading. For me, it will be hard for Stoke City to get all three points in this one, their form is not the best and Reading has been great recently. Reading lost 1-0 against Leeds in away match, they had a fair amount of chances and they have missed the penalty. They are quite good at home, so for me, they have a better chance of winning this one.
Reading to win: 1-0
Middlesbrough vs Aston Villa
Last game on Saturday will be yet another big match. Middlesbrough will meet with Aston Villa and once again the teams with different style of football will face each other. Middlesbrough is unbeaten in their last seven matches, they have the best defence in the league and they are waiting for their chance to get the first spot. Aston Villa has maybe the best attack in the league, but their away record hasn’t been that impressive so far. Although draw sounds like the most likely outcome, I think that Middlesbrough is going to win this one.
Middlesbrough to win: 2-0
Bristol City vs Millwall
Bristol City is in bad form, but Millwall has been the worst side when it comes to away performance this season. They’ve got only two points away from home and I am not sure if they can get a good result in this one. Bristol City is a good team, they play an attacking style of football and they work very hard. They’ve got only three wins at home this season, and this might be the perfect opportunity for them to improve their home performance.
Bristol City to win: 2-1
West Bromwich Albion vs Brentford
Last match in this round will be played on Monday, when West Bromwich Albion will meet Brentford, a side that has been in awful form lately. West Bromwich Albion is one of the best teams in Championship so far, they have scored 41 goals in 19 games and I expect them to score a lot in this one too. They are very dangerous in attack, and Brentford has a habit of conceding a lot. Although there is no easy game in Championship, WBA should be winning matches like this one.
West Brom to win: 3-0
