Every match is important in December and a lot of things can change in this fixtures. Norwich is still holding a first place and Leeds United is still trying to take it back. Ipswich is slowly losing their chance of getting out of the relegation zone, so as I said, every match is important. These are the predictions for this weekend in Championship.
West Bromwich Albion vs Aston Villa
This round starts with a big one. West Bromwich Albion will host Aston Villa as Darren Moore hopes to continue the good run. This will most certainly be a very interesting match with a lot of action on both sides. WBA has scored most goals in the league so far and Aston Villa is the second team that scored the most. Both sides are having excellent teams, but Aston Villa is not so good away from home, so West Bromwich Albion should have a slightly better chance to win this one.
WBA to win: 3-2
Birmingham vs Bristol City
Although Jota is injured, Birmingham has been winning again lately. If this was an away game for them, it would be much harder, but they are outstanding at home and I am not sure if Bristol City can get a good result from this one. Other than Jota, all the important players are fit to play and I expect Lukas Jutkiewicz to continue his form and score against Bristol City. It’s not only that I think that Birmingham should win this one; I believe that they can keep a clean sheet too.
Birmingham to win: 2-0
Brentford vs Swansea
Brentford is simply not the same team from the start of the season, but neither is Swansea. Both teams are struggling to get a win, and both teams are looking at this match as an opportunity to finally get some points and move up. For me, Swansea should be a better side, they work hard and their tactics are excellent. However, although they are in awful form, Brentford has lost only three matches at home so far, so this game can easily finish with both teams getting a point.
Leeds vs QPR
Away game against Leeds is not the game you want to play in December, but QPR will certainly work hard to get at least a point. However, Leeds United has been one of the best teams in Championship so far, and they are waiting for their chance to get their first place back. Norwich is having an easy game, so they Leeds afford to lose points now. Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe are in excellent form, and they will probably look to score in the first half so they can make it easier to get a win. I expect Leeds to score more than they did in last two.
Leeds to win: 3-0
Middlesbrough vs Blackburn
Blackburn has been good away from home this season, but hardly are they good enough to get a win against Middlesbrough. Pulis will have some easy fixtures in December, so Middlesbrough will be looking to get as much points as they can, and maybe even get a first place by the end of the year. Blackburn is conceding a lot lately, so I don’t expect it to be that hard for Middlesbrough to score on Saturday. I don’t expect a lot of goals in this one, as I believe that Middlesbrough is capable of keeping a clean sheet.
Middlesbrough to win: 2-0
Millwall vs Hull
Millwall is struggling at the bottom, but their home performance has been excellent once again this season. These are the direct opponents and this is a great opportunity for Millwall to get out of the relegation zone. When it comes to Hull, they are not only struggling to score, but they are conceding a lot this season. I expect both teams to score in this one, Millwall has conceded a goal in almost every home game so far, but I still think that they are going to win on Saturday.
Millwall to win: 2-1
Norwich vs Bolton
Norwich is looking to keep their first spot once again, and Bolton should really be an easy opponent for them. After losing points against Hull, Norwich will not allow to lose more points against sides from the bottom with Leeds United looking for their chance to get the first place back. Teemu Pukki has scored 11 goals for Norwich so far, and he can easily continue that form against Bolton on Saturday. I expect Norwich to score a lot and get an easy win.
Norwich to win: 3-0
Nottingham Forest vs Preston
Nottingham Forest has lost only two games this season, so I doubt they will lose at home against Preston. They have been consistent and they are certainly one of the best teams in Championship so far. Lewis Grabban is Championship top scorer with 14 goals and I expect him to continue that form and score against Preston on Saturday. When it comes to Preston, they have been struggling this season. They have been in good form recently, but now they are struggling again. For me, this should be an easy win for Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest to win: 2-0
Sheffield Wednesday vs Rotherham
I wouldn’t say that Sheffield Wednesday is the better team, but Rotherham still doesn’t have a single away win this season. They have lost seven away matches and managed to get only three draws. Sheffield Wednesday is certainly looking for an opportunity to move up and this is a great chance for them to get all three points. I expect both teams to score in this one, but Sheffield Wednesday shouldn’t lose points on Saturday against the worst side in Championship when it comes to an away performance.
Sheffield Wednesday to win: 2-1
Stoke vs Ipswich
Stoke City is unbeaten in their last seven matches and with home game against Ipswich I expect them to continue that run. Ipswich is losing a lot of points this season and it’s not only that they hold the last place, but the difference with them and their relegation rivals is quite big. Stoke City may not be in their best form this season, but they are certainly improving, so they shouldn’t be losing points against teams like Ipswich. Once again, I expect both teams to score, but Stoke is having a better chance to win.
Stoke to win: 3-1
Wigan vs Derby County
Nick Powell is injured, but I still think that Wigan will win this one. Wigan has been one of the best teams this season when it comes to home performance and Derby County does have a habit to lose points against smaller sides. I expect a lot of excitement from this match, both teams are excellent in attack and both teams will probably score. But considering their excellent form at home, although their best player is injured, I believe that Wigan can win this one.
Wigan to win: 2-1
Reading vs Sheffield United
Although Sheffield United has recently been first, I expect them to struggle against Reading. It’s not only that Reading is playing at home, but they have lost only one of their last five matches. So the fact is, Reading is currently in slightly better form than Sheffield United. With a win here, Reading would have a chance to move up a bit from a relegation zone and I expect them to achieve that.
Reading to win: 2-1
