Championship Predictions: Derby, Aston Villa and Norwich to win?

Fulham in the Championship

Norwich and Leeds United are slowly creating the gap between them and the rest of the teams in Championship. However, a lot of teams will be looking to catch up in this round and with lot of direct opponents playing against each other this weekend, things might get really exciting in Championship after this gameweek.

Sheffield United vs West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion is not in their best form currently, but they are looking to get back in the fight for a first spot. Sheffield United is their direct opponent, and although they play quite a different style of football, I expect a lot of action in this one. Sheffield United is not so good at home, but they are hoping to continue their good form and possibly improve their home performance. I expect both teams to score, and I expect a lot of goals, but I don’t think that any of these two teams will get a win.

Draw: 2-2

Aston Villa vs Stoke City

Aston Villa has lost only one home game this season, while Stoke City has struggling to get good results so far. Stoke does concede a lot, but their biggest problem is finding a back of the net, they rarely score more than one and that can cost them points on Saturday. Aston Villa has the second best attack in the league, and so far they have scored 41 goals. They are very dangerous at home and I can’t see Stoke City getting a good result in this one.

Aston Villa to win: 3-1

Blackburn vs Birmingham

Blackburn is excellent at home this season. They don’t get too many wins, but they have lost only one of their ten home games so far. Birmingham is an excellent team too, but they might struggle to get all three points against Blackburn. I expect both teams to score in this one, but I can’t say if any of these two teams is better than the other. If Birmingham was playing at home, I would expect them to win, but as they play an away game with Blackburn Rovers, I think that draw should be the most likely outcome.

Draw: 1-1

Bolton vs Leeds United

Although they have scored two in their last game against Championship leaders, Bolton is really ineffective in attack as they have scored only 15 goals in 21 games and conceded twice as many. Leeds United, on the other side, is on the winning run. They are excellent in attack, they are well organized in defence and they are waiting for their chance to get their first place back. Although they don’t score as much as they did earlier this season, I expect them to score at least two goals against Bolton on Saturday.

Leeds to win: 0-2

Hull City vs Brentford

The fact that Hull has a better chance to win against Brentford says enough about the awful form that Brentford is in. They have lost seven of their last ten matches and they haven’t won a single away game this season. Hull is far from a good team, they struggle to score and they are barely holding above relegation zone, but it’s opportunities like this one that they wait to get some points and move up the table. I do expect both teams to score in this one, but I believe that Hull is having a better chance to win.

Hull to win: 2-1

Ipswich Town vs Wigan Athletic

This match is an excellent opportunity for both teams to get a win, but for me it’s Wigan who has a chance to improve their away performance. Ipswich has lost four of their last five home games and they still don’t have a single win at home. Wigan is awful when it comes to an away performance, but they are a better team than Ipswich and they are capable of scoring more. This will be a tough match for both teams, but I expect Wigan to be a better side and get all three points.

Wigan to win: 1-2

Preston North End vs Millwall

Preston has been in excellent form at home lately, while Millwall is the worst team when it comes to away performance this season. I don’t think that this will be a very exciting game, Preston has much more chance to win and they should be trying to keep a clean sheet. They will most likely try to gain more possession and create more chances, while Millwall will try to score from a counter. For me, Preston is the team that should get another home win on Saturday.

Preston to win: 1-0

QPR vs Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough has lost only one away game this season, and although they are in bad form currently, I believe that Tony Pulis has realized in their last match that playing two men up front might be the best option for Middlesbrough. Jordan Hugill and Britt Assombalonga looked like they can form a great partnership that can maybe solve their problem with finding a back of the net. QPR has lost four of their ten home matches so far this season, and they are likely to lose again against Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough to win: 0-1

Rotherham vs Reading

Considering that these are the direct opponents, both teams will try to get a win in this one. But this won’t be an easy game at all for Reading. Rotherham has been excellent at home this season, they have lost only one home game so far and their home performance is the only thing that’s keeping them out of the relegation zone at the moment. Reading on the other side has won only one away match this season, and although they have been picking up their form lately, I believe that they will lose against Rotherham on Saturday.

Rotherham to win: 2-1

Swansea City vs Sheffield Wednesday

Swansea is still not far away from play-offs, but they have to make sure to win matches like this one. Sheffield Wednesday was in excellent form in one point, but lately they have been conceding too many and losing a lot of games. Although Swansea is not in good form neither, they are quite dangerous at home, and they are the better team. Once again, I expect both teams to score in this one, but for me, Swansea should be the better side on Saturday.

Swansea to win: 2-1

Bristol City vs Norwich

Although it doesn’t look like that on first sight, this should be an easy game for Norwich. Bristol City has been awful at home this season, while Norwich has lost only one away game so far. Norwich is in excellent form this season, they still hold the first place and they are unbeaten in last nine games. Teemu Pukki has scored 12 goals for Norwich so far and I expect him to continue that form as they look to seal another victory against Bristol City on Saturday.

Norwich to win: 0-2

Derby County vs Nottingham Forest

Last match in this gameweek will be played on Saturday night as Derby County will meet Nottingham Forest. Once again we’ve got direct opponents and I expect both teams to go for a win. Both teams will probably score, and although Nottingham Forest is in excellent form, Derby County is having a better chance to win considering the fact that they play at home. Both teams have been in similar form this season and although Nottingham Forest has lost only one away game so far, I think that Derby County can work harder to take this opportunity and win.

Derby to win: 2-1
