Arsenal and Tottenham are looking forward to start 2019 with wins after the disappoints losses against Liverpool and Wolverhampton. Manchester City need to win against Liverpool to cut the distance to the first place to 4 points.
Everton vs Leicester City
I thought that Everton will get at least a point at Brighton, despite that the Seagulls are one of the strongest home teams in the league. The Toffees lost 1:0 at Falmer Stadium and now need to win that one agains a very strong Leicester team who plays very well at counter attacks. Everton have won the last two Premier League home games against Leicester City and I think that they are very motivated to win that one too.
Ademola Lookman, who missed the trip to Brighton die to an ankle injury is doubtful while James McCarthy needs to be assessed before the game for Everton.
Everton to win: 2:1
Arsenal vs Fulham
Fulham have just got 3 points at home against Huddersfield and enjoyed a positive end of the season. The Cottagers have nothing to loose and will give Arsenal a hard time at Emirates. However, despite the recent 5:1 loss against Liverpool, I think that Arsenal are too good for Fulham.
Arsenal to win: 3:1
Cardiff City vs Tottenham Hotspur
Cardiff City have just got 3 points at Leicester that very few have expected them win. Back at home they will be on the mood to face Spurs and I can project that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will have hard time at Cardiff in the New Year’s late afternoon. Still, this looks to me like a Tottenham win.
Tottenham to win: 1:2
AFC Bournemouth vs Watford
The Watford captain Troy Deeney is returning to the match day squad. Abdoulaye Doucoure is expected to start for the Hornets after scoring a goal against Newcastle. Andre Gray, Sebastian Prodl and Adalberto Penaranda have missed out the game against Newcastle.
Nathan Ake is a major doubt for Bournemouth, while Simon Francis, Adam Smith, Lewis Cook and Dan Gosling all long-term absentees for the Cherries. Jordon Ibe could be given a chance to play as wing-back.
Bournemouth trashed Watford at Vicarage road by 0:4 earlier this season. Within the last 6 games they have played against Liverpool, Wolves, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United and lost. Now it is time to win one.
Chelsea vs Southampton
Alvaro Morata is expected to start this game unless Maurizio Sarri decide to keep playing Eden Hazard as false number 9. Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pedroand Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has recently attacked a lot of attention on the transfer market are expected to miss out this fixture.
Ryan Bertrand is still not fully recovered for Southampton, Michael Obafemi is expected to be sidelined while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg starts a four-match suspension.
Chelsea to win: 3:0
Huddersfield Town vs Burnley
It is a must win game for Huddersfield and they must do it, if they want to keep fighting for their Premier League place. Unluckily for them some important players like Aaron Mooy, Danny Williams and Abdelhamid Sabiriare and Tommy Smith are still unavailable.
Robbie Brady and Matt Lowton are expected to return to the Burnley’s match day squad. Steven Defour, Stephen Ward, Aaron Lennon and goalkeeper Nick Pope are out.
Burnley are the better who are better prepared to get results, but I’ll tip the Terriers to win.
Huddersfield to win: 2:1
West Ham United vs Brighton & Hove Albion
West Ham have some many key players on their injury list, so it is a some form of a miracle that they 11th in the Premier League table.
Pablo Zabaleta is expected to return to the match day squad. The return of Marko Arnautovic is amor boost, but Javier Hernandez is not expected to play for another week. Winston Reid, Jack Wilshere, Ryan Fredericks, Fabian Balbuena, Manuel Lanzini, Carlos Sanchez and Andriy Yarmolenko are not available to play.
Brighton have a full squad to choose from. The only players who aren’t available are Mat Ryan and Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who are both joined their national teams for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Brithgon have won their last 3 Premier League games against the Hammers by scoring 7 goals and conceding just one. I’m typing West Ham to either win or draw that one, however
West Ham to win: 2:1
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace
If Crystal Palace play an open football and decide to attack at Molineux, I think that the gifted Wolves offensive players will create a lot of chances and Wolverhampton will win this fixture.
Diogo Jota and Adama Traore will be assessed before the game. Crystal Palace have no new injury worries and Roy Hodgson have a full squad to choose from except the long term absentee Christan Benteke.
Wolves have already won 0:1 against Palace in October at Selhurst Park and will be looking for a double agains the Eagles. I think that Palace will score at least once at Molineux, so it is up to Wolves to score 2 or more goals if they want to win this fixture.
Wolves to win: 2:1
Newcastle United vs Manchester United
Newcastle will give Man untied a fight and I will not be surprised if they end the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s winning streak. Newcastle are one of the most underperforming Premier League teams at home and it is very logical to expect another win for United. There is a lot of optimism at Old Trafford as United have won 3 games in row. Let’s not forget that those were against Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth, however.
Luckily for three Devils, Newcastle isn’t a top team and they have a good opportunity to keep winning and adding points.
Manchester Untied to win: 1:3
Manchester City vs Liverpool
This is a game that is impossible to predict. Anything could happen at Etihad. In theory Liverpool are much better team at the moment. However, let’s not forget that Manchester City have had a lot of pep players injured within the last two months and this affected their game. Now player like David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are back in the squad and are available to play.
Liverpool lost 3:1 at Etihad in 2014, won 1:4 in 2015, drawn 1:1 in 2015 and lost 5:1 in 2016. Those were all in the Premier League. Both teams played in the Champions League as well and the Reds won 1:2 at Etihad.
This means nothing at the moment, however. It is unpredictable game. I have a feeling that Manchester City will play much better on Thursday evening of January 3rd then they have recently did.
Manchester City to win: 2:1
